UUM Continues To Consolidate Its Relation With PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd.

UUM CONTINUES TO CONSOLIDATE ITS RELATION WITH PKT LOGISTICS GROUP SDNShah Alam, Selangor - The role of the university is not just limited to the creation and dissemination of knowledge, but the university also plays a significant role in ensuring that the graduates being produced are able to meet the needs of the industry.

In line with these goals, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) took the initiative to further strengthen its relationship with the industry by holding discussions on potential collaboration with PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd.

The discussion which was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani among others discussed the potential strategic collaboration for the Northern Gateway Project in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah which would benefit both parties.

PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd. also agreed to hold joint programmes with UUM namely Smart Truckers, Talk CEO and practicum placement.

At the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd., Dato' Michael Tio also shared the story of PKT Logistics through a presentation entitled "The Story of PKT Logistics" which revolved around the director’s rise and fall in developing the organization to its highest level today.

The UUM delegation also visited the "The Light House" known as the iconic building which is also the highest warehouse in Malaysia.

The discussion session was also attended by the Director of Centre for University-Industry Collaboration (CUIC), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marlin Marissa Malek; Dean of the School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Hasni Osman and UUM officials.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

New Postgraduate Students Register At OYAGSB

NEW POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS REGISTER AT OYAGSB

The registration for the new Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business (OYAGSB) postgraduate students for the second semester (A182) January session 2018/2019 admissions took place, yesterday.

For the January admission, a total of 117 offer letters were issued to 70 local students and 47 international students who hail from Palestine, Yemen, Iraq, China, Algeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Thailand, Nigeria and Indonesia.

The registration process for both the Master Degree and Doctoral Degree programmes took place smoothly.  The study session will begin on 11th January.

The Dean of OYAGSB, Prof. Dr. Shahizan Hassan welcomed the students who successfully registered and congratulated them on becoming part of the UUM community.

"I hope that all of you as new students at OYAGSB will study hard to achieve success and make use of the opportunity to study at UUM as best you can.

"I fervently hope that all of you will be able to complete your studies within the stipulated time and graduate successfully," he said this when delivering his speech during a briefing session with the new students.

Shortly thereafter, the entire academic briefing series was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Subramaniam Sri Ramalu, Deputy Dean of OYAGSB; the subsequent academic briefing according to programme was carried out by Prof. Ts. Dr. Norazah Mohd Suki for the PhD & MSc (Research) programmes, followed by briefing of the DBA programme by Prof. Dr. Nor Azila Mohd Noor and finally the briefing for the MBA programme was conducted by Dr. Francis Chuah Chin Wei.

Tunku Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA), Islamic Business School (IBS) and School of Business Management (SBM), School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB) also carried out their respective briefing sessions.

 

STHEM AND ANGKASA SET TO MOBILIZE THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM SECTOR

Universiti Utara Malaysia through its School of Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management (STHEM) was selected by Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) to become its partner in mobilizing the development of the tourism sector of the agency.

Vice-President of Angkasa , Dato' Mohamad Ali Hassan said that UUM was chosen as a collaborative partner because UUM STHEM has the expertise and existing faculty, and has been directly involved in developing hotels, tourism and spa for the state of Kedah and abroad.

"I am grateful and thankful for being able to hold discussions with STHEM. During the discussion both parties talked about the current developments and priorities of the collaborative projects which can be implemented by both parties.

"In addition, during the discussion, I also mentioned about the hospitality sectors namely homestay, spa and training that can be developed as well as the preparation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for identified sectors as well as the development of tourism in school cooperatives," he said after attending the Tourism Sector Development Programme Discussion at the Main Meeting Room, STHEM.

The two-hour talk was attended by officials from the Tourism, Personal Care and Health Sector, Community Development, Tourism and Health Division (BPKPK), Angkasa and STHEM senior officials.

Dato' Mohamad Ali further reiterated that Angkasa wanted to showcase how cooperative hotel can apply and practice the syariah-compliant concept in the future, so the initial discussion would be further refined and that he would identify concrete steps on short-term and long-term plans so that Angkasa can make meaningful contributions to gross domestic product (GDP) in the tourism, hospitality and health sectors.

Meanwhile, the Dean of STHEM, Dr. Johan Afendi Ibrahim said that STHEM identified several collaborations that could be carried out as Angkasa has also ventured in the tourism, self-care and health sectors as well as other small sub-sectors.

According to him, Angkasa would like to further expand its business and help the Bumiputeras to be involved directly in the field of tourism.

He said STHEM would also consider appropriate training for the staff at Angkasa to help them further develop all the products under the Angkasa Cooperative.
