UUM ONLINE: The prominence of the new artistic talents which showcased creativity with fresh new ideas definitely enlivened the 2019/2020 Orientation Week Arts Appreciation Night held at the Mu'adzam Shah Hall recently.
The curtains drew with the rendition of the national anthem, Negaraku to enhance the sense of identity, unity and spirit of nationalism towards the beloved homeland followed by the University song, Biru Warna and snippets of cultural programmes organised by the student cultural organisation.
With its apt theme, Love Our Malaysia (Sayangi Malaysiaku), the event organised by the Cultural and Arts Centre was aimed at talent scouting and developing new artistic talents who will be nurtured to become the next artistic talents for the University.
The artistic and creative performances of the new students were commendable even though their training was short.
Performances included sketches, Malaysian unity dance, boria, international student cultural performances, musical theatre and choir. There was also a performance from a band led by a Principal from the Student Residential Hall (INASIS) which received a huge applause.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dato' Dr Ahmad Bashawir Abdul Ghani who was accompanied by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof Dr Hendrik Lamsali officiated the presentation of souvenirs to the Citra Wangsa group from Bank Muamalat INASIS and YAB INASIS.
In addition, Freshies Buskers (Sime Darby INASIS and TM INASIS), Semashor Nadanam (Bank Rayat INASIS and SME Bank INASIS), Petra Tigera (Petronas INASIS and Grantt INASIS), Gelatik Cucakrowo (Tradewinds INASIS and Proton INASIS), Macinda Sari (MAS INASIS and TNB INASIS) and Asteria Voices (MISC INASIS and BSN INASIS) too received their respective souvenirs.
At the end of the event, the song entitled “Tanggal 31” resonated in the hall while students were seen waving their miniature Stripes of Glory (Jalur Gemilang) to rouse the spirit of love for the country and to express themselves as Malaysians.
