ASEAN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAMME (AELP)

ASEAN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAMME 2017 (AELP 2017) is an inaugural programme by the ASEAN UNIVERSITY NETWORK – STUDENT AFFAIRS NETWORK (AUN-SAN) and will be hosted by Universiti Utara Malaysia. This is an opportunity for participants to experience the full scale Joint Malaysian & Thailand Military Exercise on humanitarian assistance and relief. So don’t miss this chance of a lifetime! UUM Student Representative Council will be the secretariat for this programme together with UUM Student Affairs Department.

Objectives

To engage students in Experiential learning and immersion


To provide a platform for knowledge sharing on common issues pertinent to ASEAN region


To provide opportunities for students to apply knowledge gained when they go back home for possible national and/or regional follow up projects

Humanitarian assistance & disaster relief


Expected Outcomes

Enhanced understanding among students on how issues are dealt with in different contexts and countries


Collaborative follow up projects among students in ASEAN.

Schedule

Format of Activities

Pre Assignments 


  • Provision of reading materials.
  • Self-research on predetermined theme.



 



On-site Activities


  • 1st day, Lecture & Discussion as preliminary foundation related to the given theme.
  • 2nd & 3rd day, Fieldtrip for actual exposure experience.
  • 4th day, Sharing & reflection activities.

Post assignments

  • The participants are expected to create their follow up projects per country on the same theme and this may be supported by their institutions or by AUN member universities in general 
  • The participants will discuss and follow up on their discussions and projects virtually such as Webinar and emails on periodic basis

Participation

  • A maximum of 2 participants per university from AUN Members
  • The sending university may nominate faculty staff to accompany students and bear their own airfares, accommodation, and travel insurance while local hospitality will be provided by the host university which include airport transfers, meals, and breaks.


Financial Implication

  • USD100 registration fees will be charged for each participant
  • AUN cost sharing model: Host university to fund local arrangements (accommodation, airport transfers, local transportation, meals, and breaks)
