Academic Staff Promotions Reach Record High Under Stewardship Of Present VC
The year 2016 witnessed the highest number of promotions given to the academic staff at UUM when a total of 64 staff members received their respective promotion letters.
The said promotion exercise involved the largest number of promotions in the last seven years, since 2010, thus marking a unique milestone in the history of UUM since its inception 32 years ago.
The Vice-Chancellor of UUM, Dato' Seri Dr. Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, said that, since his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor in 2010, a total of 181 academic staff members had been promoted, namely, two (2) to the post of Professor (Grade VK6), 26 to the post of Professor (Grade VK7), 115 to the post of Associate Professor (Grade DS54), and 38 to the post of Senior Lecturer (Grade DS52).
"For the year 2016, a total of 64 academic staff members have received their promotions, namely, one (1) to the post of Professor (Grade VK6), nine (9) to the post of Professor (Grade VK7), 48 to the post of Associate Professor, and six (6) to the post of Senior Lecturer.
"With these promotions, I hope that the academic staff members concerned will redouble their efforts in assisting UUM in the implementation of its vision and mission apart from exercising their responsibilities proactively towards developing, mobilising, and raising the performance of the university," said the Vice-Chancellor during the ceremony held to mark the Presentation of Letters of Appointment to Key-Office Bearers and Promotion of Academic Staff Members at EDC Hotels & Resorts, yesterday.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, to be a leader, one had to possess several attributes, namely, being an effective team player and being loyal, wise, and sensible, as well as upholding the 12 Pillars inspired by the former Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, in 1992.
The ceremony, which witnessed a total of 60 key office-bearers receive their letters of appointment, also saw the appointment of the Dean of the School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB), Prof. Dr. Yusnidah Ibrahim, as the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM COB; the Dean of the School of Computing (SoC), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huda Ibrahim, as the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM CAS; and the reappointment of the Dean of the School of International Studies (SoIS), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bashawir Abd Ghani, as the Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UUM COLGIS.
Also present at the ceremony were members of the University Management Committee and senior officers of UUM.
