Background on 1MRyD Programme

 

Rationale for the inclusion of the programme in the Co-Curricular Course:  

  1. To serve the need to develop the employability attributes framework, a holistic and integrated curriculum that embeds graduate employability core skills and graduate employability competency that have been aligned with the needs of industry;
  2. To address the National Graduate Employability Blue Print (2012-2017) strategies for universities to continuously able to provide the right workforce to meet economic demands by producing employable graduates.
  3. To fulfil the university?s Second Pillar KPI: Developing students holistically and the National Higher Education Strategic PlanCritical Agenda Project (CAP): Graduate Employability;   and
  4. To strategize, energize and synergize on the role of Student Affairs and the academics, and to optimize the use of UUM?s resources, facilities and students? time by avoiding overlapping activities in order to produce graduates equipped with GEC and graduate students attributes (GSA).
 

Semester/Year Offered:  Semester 1, 2, 3 and 4/ Year 1- 2 (Effective for students of session A141, programme offered during week 8 and 9 of Co-Curricular Course (Ko-K)

Pre-requisite (if any): Students need to undergo four parts of the module consecutively.

 

Objective(s) of Course :

The educational purpose of 1MRyD programme is to help UUM achieve higher Graduate Employability Rate by producing holistic students equipped with graduate soft-skills attributes as well as graduate employability competency via student-centred learning activities.

 

Course Learning Outcomes:

 At the end of the programme, students are expected to:

  1. Acquire not only the graduate employability competency but also relevant core skills, qualities and attributes required within the profession (GSA).
  2. Develop their employability through learning, training and improved communication skills.
  3. Demonstrate characteristics that will enable them to compete for jobs both in the public and private sector.
 

Transferable Skills:

Academic attributes (academic performance and knowledge of the job in the relevant profession), personality management attributes (positive attitude, responsibility, adaptability and leadership), exploration attributes (imaginative, innovative, and entrepreneurial) and connectivity attributes (communication, teamwork, technology savvy, and sense of commercial awareness).

 

Teaching-learning and Assessment Strategy:

Student-Centred Learning (SCL) Strategy is applied. The programme expects active participation from students engaged in tasks and activities conducted.

Emphasis on doing ?Reflections? and instillation of Qalb values in all activities.

For the assessment strategy, it is an integration of the larger Co-Curricular syllabus. Hence the 10 percent or 10 marks out of the total 100% (100 marks) of Co-Curricular grading are attributed to this programme.

The use of Rubrics and Journal Writings as forms of assessment mechanism.

 

Synopsis:

The 1MRyD programme is designed to ensure that relevant employability soft skills attributes are incorporated into the university?s programmes. The module is developed as the right intervention measures to address students? adjustments to university life, followed by developing their mature inter-personal relationship as well as their identity and autonomy. In order to ensure that graduates are aware of the market needs and employers demands, students are exposed to pathways to a successful career with adequate communication skills in a multi-cultural work place. Unlike the highlighted topics which are compulsory to all students while enrolling for their Co-Curricular Course, a few topics/modules are offered to the students on voluntary basis towards the end of their study year. Among the topics are Resume Writing, Personal Grooming and Interviews, and also Professional Values and Ethics at the Work Place.

 

Mode of Delivery:

Student-Centred learning strategy including discussions, audio/visual aids, case studies, role-plays, presentation etc. Modules will be handled by appointed facilitators.
